The Natural Highs program at LEAF provides teens with opportunities for learning and peer support on a regenerative farm and nature-based setting that fosters meaningful connection to the land, the animals, and each other. This programming provides hope and inspiration for young people who are struggling with substance abuse, mental health issues, disconnection, and isolation. The farm programs offers a healing space for teens to learn new skills and connect in a healthy natural environment.

Living Earth Agriculture Foundation, in partnership with the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, and Boulder Natural High’s, were recognized for this innovative farm-based programming that supports youth in recovery and wellness.

Teen Herbal Gardening and Farming Program with Boulder Natural High’s

Join us for our monthly teen group in our medicinal herb gardens on the farm! This beautiful outdoor farm setting provides an inclusive space for teens to gather with farmers, mentors and peer leaders to inspire and teach alternative ways that support our wellbeing.

Each farm gathering starts with a traditional Yerba Mate and herbal tea ceremony to bring us together. We learn about medicinal herbs and how to grow them and prepare them to support the challenges of stress, anxiety and depression that many teens struggle with. Our programs are for All teens to participate in:

  • Growing and harvesting medicinal herbs

  • Herbal apothecary—teas, tinctures, salves and more

  • Interacting with animals on the farm to support our well-being—pigs, chickens, cows and horses

  • Group Mindfulness practice

  • Peer support and leadership skills

  • Connection and meaningful relationship building
